ABOUT THE ARTIST

Artist Name: The Blue Maroon

The Blue Maroon is Jed Dycoco. Songwriter and vocalist of Scarlet Alley.

Jed started writing songs since 2005 in UP Tacloban. Was one of the pioneer members of the band Scarlet Alley, formed in 2007.

Finalist of the UP National Centennial Songwriting Competition in 2008 with the song "Atin na ang mundo" held in UP Diliman.

This competition lead him writing one of his most notable songs "Umawit Muli" in 2010. This was recorded in KBOX Studios. The first version was used as theme song of the Eastern Visayas Student Councils Leadership Conference (2011).

Umawit Muli also won awards during the LARGABISTA FILM FESTIVAL - SHORT FILM & MUSIC VIDEO COMPETITION (2012) | Region VIII  including Music Video of the Year.

In 2014 after Typhoon HAIYAN (Yolanda), Jed volunteered during the relief and rehabilitation operations of Gawad Kalinga and Umawit Muli was used as their Unity Dance Song during the "2014 Bayani Challenge". The biggest Volunteer event in the country where more than 1 million volunteers participated and danced to the tune of Umawit muli during the activities and programs which lasted for 2 months. From then on, Jed went full time as a Nation Builder for the foundation.

Three years later, Jed was tasked to write and create the unity dance song for "Bayani Challenge 2017". This was somewhat a sequel to Umawit Muli. The song was "Malaya" which was inspired by his mission as a Nation Builder. The first version was recorded with the Youth for Christ band members from Bacolod City.

Malaya, was recorded again in Tacloban with Scarlet Alley. Later that year the band released its' first full album with KBOX Studios through sponsorships and crowdfunding. "Malaya" and a new version of "Umawit Muli (2017)" was included in the album entitled "Buhay, Bayan, Babae...Beer!" which had 10 songs.

The album included "Parade" which was performed by Johanna Erroba

Jed also wrote the songs for other artists like "Supladang Dalaga" for the band Island Paradise in 2011

And "Zoom zoom zoom" by Mighty Jahzeus with Scarlet Alley during the pandemic in 2020

in 2021 Jed was already working for a BPO but was still an active volunteer of Gawad Kalinga. His song "Handa na akong maging bayani", which he wrote during one of the youth camps way back in 2014 was chosen as the unity dance song for "Bayani Challenge 2021". This was recorded with Scarlet Alley.

That same year, Jed was part of Project Jeremiah, an initiative to promote voters education and choosing leaders that are "Maka-Diyos at Maka-Deliver". His song "Arangkada" was produced by Project Jeremiah as its theme song and in 2022, the same song was chosen by Gawad Kalinga again as its Unity Dance song for "Bayani Challenge 2022". The song was performed by Jed and the band SpoonPlay. They recorded the song at KBox Studios and Dayaw Studios.

After 2 years (2024) and being away from his band, and being a full time dad, Jed was able to find a community of songwriters in facebook. He decided to join an intimate session with SInger Songwriters Philippines, organized by Fred Enggay. This served as a spark for him to start again and try his music in the metro. He started joining open mics and finally in November 27, 2024, "Arangkada" was released in spotify and other online platforms.

On the side, Jed also writes jingles for election candidates.

Jed is now working on his Project Album which he plans to release by the end of the year (2025). He also just applied for FILSCAP Membership last February and performed in the FILSCAP 22nd songwriters night. Even without enough resources to fund this album, he is very positive it will all work out just like how his album with Scarlet Alley worked out. Faith and music will always get us through no matter what road our lives may have ahead of us...
